International Widows’ Day outreach

In celebration of International Widows’ Day, an annual global observation on the 23rd of June, Lagos Food Bank Initiative will be supporting widows and beneficiaries of the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) with nutritious food items and personal care materials for their sustenance.

ABOUT INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS’ DAY:

International Widows’ Day is a day set aside to highlight the challenges and injustices faced by widows worldwide, and to advocate for policy changes and societal support structures. The day calls for comprehensive measures to protect widows’ rights, including legal reforms to ensure property and inheritance rights, social protection systems to provide financial assistance, and community programs to offer emotional and social support.

GOAL:

The goal of this outreach is to provide succor for food insecure widows in low-income communities for their general well-being.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To celebrate widows on International Widows’ Day.
  • To enhance the well-being of widows through proper nutrition, and to promote a healthy diet.
  • To provide support for widows living in low-cost communities.

Date: Friday 21st June, 2024.

Beneficiaries: Widows living in low-income communities, Lagos.
